We Had Ourselves a Merry Little Childhaus Christmas!

Picture
On our 11th Annual ChildHaus Christmas party, everyone was all-smiles, as always. It was an afternoon of fun, laughter and a whole lot of good energy. Every year, our Christmas party never ceases to amaze me. There is still so much love in the world. Thank you to everyone who participated in their own little way through the MyPlegde site! Your contribution made a child’s Christmas wish come true. Here are the photos showing how you made someone’s Christmas extra special!
Didn’t those photos give you giant smiles for days?

Another major highlight of the party was when the kids sang. Last year, I recorded a song I wrote called "Akay" with the ChildHaus kids, and they surprised me when they performed it during the party. I never want them to see me cry but this one was too much and I just let the tears flow.
Picture
It was such a special and touching moment for me. I love watching the kids sing because they enjoy performing so much. I'm proud that they have a song they can call their own.
Picture
Aside from the generosity of so many of you who have helped the Child Haus kids through MyPledge, so many individuals, groups and companies have helped as well.

Allow me to thank everyone. Much love and gratitude to the following:
Picture
Victory Liner: The kids and their families were comfortable in a big bus thanks to Victory Liner. Manila traffic isn’t a problem when there's enough space for fun!
Picture
Booky and Booky Founder Ben Wintle had a great idea to take the kids shopping in Fully Booked.
The kids had a budget to buy books but unfortunately they chose toys, bags and accessories instead. This reminds me that they need to have more eduational programs in ChildHaus, as the kids’ schooling is disrupted since they are in Manila for treatment.
Picture
The event wouldn't have been a success if it weren't for our enthusiastic and energetic host Migz with a Z Anzures. Thank you for making sure that the party energy level was on high gear from beginning to the end!
Showtime Family’s Mr. Bean (Michael Lasac) from Kalokalike and the Spyros brothers Marc and Marco Betito from PINASikat gave the kids lots of smiles with their funny and breathtaking numbers respectively. Mr. Bean and Spyros always selflessly give their time to make our parties extra special.
Since Facebook and Instagram are all the rave, it seemed timely to take profile pictures with none other than our volunteers Kuya Francis Perez and Kuya Biboy Soriano from @PatDyPhotography Team. Thank you also to blogger Ate @TracyAyson, for teaching the kids how to pose. I’m sure the kids will love their new pics with their poses on fleek!
In the spirit of sharing, Zalora also gave the kids more reasons to smile!
Picture
Timezone. Timezone has been the venue of our parties for the past 9 years, two years after we first started the Christmas tradition with Child Haus. Thank you to Sir Raffy, Miss Misty, Miss Nedz, Sir Patrick, and the rest of the awesome timezone team!
The kids love it in Timezone so much that most of them have a hard time sleeping the night before the party. Thank you for always making Christmas more memorable for the kids and the parents and staff too! Play-all-you can is a wonderful treat for anyone at any age!
Picture
Chooks to Go. Thank you for the food that the kids and volunteers ate for merienda. It was so good that it was gone in minutes! But we saved some for the ride home.
Picture
QBE Foundation. Thanks for the shoeboxes with school supplies for the kids!
Thank you to all my family and friends who played with the kids. Iza Calzado, a long time volunteer of Child Haus dropped by in the middle of a busy day just to play with the kids. Thank you Ate Iza! And thanks as well to Mama Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ate Gaki aka. Gaki Moto, Kuya Quark Henares and Yael Yuzon.

We missed our Ate Divine because of a delayed flight, along with Kuya Lorenz Manalang and Ate Che, but they helped so much in the planning of the event.
Thank you to our new volunteers from MASA, Miss Dinah Cardines, Ninong Koyang and the rest of the team. Thank you for the donation Miss D. Thank you also to my dear friends from Book and Borders Cafe and Blue Water Day Spa Miss Nancy Go and Mrs. Mary Simisim for spending time with the kids.

Thank you to my dear friends Kuya Homer, my dad, my dogs, Kuya Arnel, Garry Lopez, Ninang Rose Martinez, James Martinez and everyone who made the event possible.

"Sabay Tayo" is the Official Song of the Philippines for the 2016 Olympics

Here are some photos from the #SabayTayo Pandesal forum! Let's keep supporting our delegates.
So proud of Hidilyn Diaz, for nabbing our first medal in 20 years!
Click here to view the whole album.

Official Press Release

“Sabay Tayo,” written by Yael Yuzon, Karylle, and Frank Magalona, is the official song of the Philippines at the 2016 Summer Olympics to be held from August 5 to 21, 2016. It accompanies the 12 elite athletes representing the country at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It also includes the special participation of UP Tugma from the University of the Philippines College of Music.

"Sabay Tayo" was commissioned by Sports5 through its outsourced agency, Melmac Sports. Karylle, the multi-faceted artist, collaborates with the multi-awarded rock band, Sponge Cola, for the inspiring song. Frank Magalona, the actor/rapper son of the late Francis Magalona, also lends his lyrical prowess while UP Tugma deepens its patriotic elements with their authentic instrumentation. “Sabay Tayo” highlights the Filipinos' fighting spirit and sense of bayanihan, in which one Filipino's achievement of his dream fulfills the entire country's aspirations.

Hundreds of Filipino artists were part of the selection process for the project. Mel Macasaquit, head of Melmac Sports, admits that the collaboration between Sponge Cola, Karylle, and Frank Magalona exceeded expectations. “We’re doing this for the flag,” said Macasaquit, adding, “’Pag inisip mo ang lyrics ni Francis Magalona, I don’t think it can get any more patriotic than that. Napakalaking bagay na nakuha namin si Frank.”

“[Karylle] decided to bring in UP Tugma,” said Sponge Cola lead singer and guitarist, Yael Yuzon, who is also Karylle’s husband. “We wanted to use traditional instruments and really mic them to keep the experience as organic and legit as possible.” This is also the couple’s first musical collaboration.

The Philippines is looking to end a 20-year drought to bring home a medal. The official delegates on whom this challenge falls are: Jasmine Alkhaldi (swimming), Jessie Lacuna (swimming), Ian Lariba (table tennis), Miguel Tabuena (golf), Marestella Sunang (track and field), Charly Suarez (boxing), Eric Cray (track and field), Hidilyn Diaz (weightlifting), Rogen Ladon (boxing), Nestor Colonia (weightlifting), Kirstie Alora (taekwando), Mary Joy Tabal (track and field), and Kodo Nakano (judo).

“Sabay Tayo” is also the official song of the Philippines Men’s National Basketball Team, Gilas Pilipinas. The song will be included in Sponge Cola’s album, “Sinag Tala,” and Karylle’s album, “A Different Playground.”

Listen to “Sabay Tayo” on Spotify.

Meeting the Tanauan Baseball Team

Picture
On my trip home from the Changi airport, I saw the Pony League Asia Pacific Champion baseball kids of Tanauan who won the Pony League Asia Pacific Championship in Singapore.

After our picture, the coach said to them, "Magbigay pugay."

Before they fly to the USA to represent the Philippines in the Pony League World Series, they visited us in Showtime.
Picture
The Showtime family and the Madlang people are all very proud of them.

This July, the Mustang 9 and under will be competing in LA and Mustang 10 under will compete in Louisiana.

Our Father's Day Staycation @EDSAShangriLa

I love my dad so much, we celebrated Father’s Day all weekend long. I originally wanted to go to Tagaytay but my dad didn’t want to driver far for a weekend family getaway.  But my dad did want to have one last hurrah to extend the summer and he asked to stay @EDSAShangrila. The urban oasis was the perfect fun and fuss-free choice.

We had a nice Father’s Day dinner at Paparrazi. No, Lady Gaga didn’t sing her hit song but instead we did spot beauty queen Venus Raj.
Picture
She is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. And her waist line is to die for.
The Paparazzi dishes were creatively presented and not too formal. They served as conversation pieces and and were perfectly instagrammable. In my opinion, this makes the meal even more sumptuous!
Picture

I loved the way they arranged my fave cheese, which I first encountered at Mario Batalli’s restaurant in Singapore. It was in a giant round dish with “jolen” Chinese checkers like holes but instead of  jolen, you could take your pick with what you would like to mix in your plate.
Picture
Cheese, pepper, olive oil, cherry tomatoes. It’s very reminiscent of my midnight munchy snacks at home save for the buratta as that something we eat for special occasions! I love the idea of mixing and matching the food myself. The creative freedom is perfect for this generation’s picky eater who would like this and that-hold the mayo, less oil, can we substitute the white rice with brown or red rice-which probably drives the kitchen and wait staff a bit nuts.
Picture
The steak dish was a sight to behold and I took a photo of it before it got to the table. Because I fell in love with it straight away, I knew that everyone would gasp at the sight of it. And they did.  I was ready to take that “paparrazi” shot! You know that proud moment, when you pick a restaurant and everyone raves about the food for weeks on end earning you foodie stars from your family!

Hey, don’t judge! This is an actual thing haha!
Any Game of Thrones fan would definitely feel like a king, queen, knight, imp, giant, member of the Night's Watch or whatever is your fancy with the giant T-bone dish and the crazy, medieval, deadly steak knife collection of Paparazzi. The boys especially loved it! Primal urges satisfied indeed!
Swimming was another highlight. Weather was perfect for a dip. There were lots of families in the pool area. It’s my fave sight and sound, kids playing on a perfect sunny day!

Lemme share my fave moments during our little family weekend:

1. Pizza under the coconut trees at the “beach bar” by the water.
2. Dad getting a free box of chocolates after checking out. Gifts always make a person feel extra special.
3. Picture taking in Chi spa. It always feel like you’ve entered a portal into vacation land when you enter the spa area near the pool.
4. Seeing two brides in the lobby.

I'd super recommend having your much needed staycation @EDSAShangriLa.

KarylleOnBornForYou

It felt nice to be on the set with my “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” director Jerry Lopez Sineneng and our AD at the time Direk Piem. This time we were on the set of “Born For You" #BFY  with Elmo Magalona and Janella Salvador. I really love their story which talks about the red string and how it brings people together.

When I was writing my song #HalfAMillion, I could definitely visualise Shibuya crossing which is why I super loved the scene where Kevin and Sam are tugged together by a red string. That’s exactly what I wanted for my music video but alas I didn’t have the budget to shoot in Japan.

Half a million strangers,
2 souls from lonely strange worlds,
a boy and a girl

right?

Don’t forget to watch Born For You tonight
