Chef Laudico Guevarra’s in San Juan falls under what I like to call “Gillage Cuisine”. For those who are not familiar with the term, gillage is a contraction of gilid ng village.
The space in San Juan has always been a lovely one, the home turned restaurant reminds me a lot of my childhood because I spent most of my summers and Christmases in the old John Hay in Baguio.
But of course it’s like a trip further back in time considering the architecture which dates back to 1920. I am glad that even though it isn’t exactly considered a heritage site, they have taken care to preserve it to the best of their ability.
Guevarra’s has always been buzzing with people but they received an even stronger following thanks to Ninang Kris Aquino:

And after three years, @ChefLau, the rockstar chef and his wife, Jackie @ChefLaudico, who makes the desserts continue to keep the quality and excitement of the food high up, which in turn ensures that the people keep coming in in droves.
When my family went to Guevarra’s, their theme for the day was #SinulogFestivalatGuevarras. It’s one thing to have signature delish dishes, but it’s another thing to have truly festive themes that keep things truly interesting especially for foodies who are always on the lookout for something that is #totallyinstagrammable or now, Snapchat worthy!
I loved the super tasty and tender Roast Pork Belly Lechon so much that it seems I had a whole pictorial with it.

My other personal favourites from my last trip to Guevarra’s buffet were the very Pinoy and very creative salad dressings: Guava Glaze, Dijon Bagoong Sauce and Creamy Salted egg! Yum! I also loved the crispy crablets and the cute sliced lumpia that looks a bit like Japanese sushi!
I also loved the pandan juice soooo much. I dunno how many glasses I had!
And for the dessert I think I tried everything since they are in small, guilt free portions! Thanks, Chef Jackie, for thinking of us! I loved the mini halo-halo & my all time fave, maja blanca!
It is kind of like going to Tagaytay after all without the traffic! You can hang out at the garden before or after your meal and get a little bit of nature in the heart of the city.
